Embroidery Guide
How machine embroidery works, which artwork embroiders well, and how to get a crisp, durable result.
What embroidery is best for
Embroidery stitches thread directly into the fabric, so it is extremely durable and has a premium, textured finish. It is the go-to choice for polos, caps, jackets, bags and workwear.
It works best for logos and text with bold, simple shapes. Very fine detail, thin lines, small text and photographic gradients do not translate well to thread.
Artwork requirements
Send vector artwork (SVG, PDF or AI) or a high-resolution PNG on a transparent background.
Keep text at least 5mm tall in the final size. Lines should be at least 1mm thick.
Limit the design to a handful of solid colours — each colour is a separate thread.
Digitising
Before your artwork can be embroidered it must be "digitised" — converted into a stitch file that tells the machine the path, density and direction of every stitch.
Digitising is a one-time cost per design and per placement size. Once a design is digitised with us, re-ordering it is free.
Placement and sizing
Common placements: left chest (up to ~90mm wide), full back (up to ~280mm), cap front (up to ~120mm), sleeve and collar.
Each placement on a product has its own size limits and price, shown when you customise the product.
